Although there is no perfect soul mate, some people you meet will make a better mate for you than others. Those with a big ego who are alcoholic/substance abusing, very critical, and unhappy are not likely to turn out to be a good partner for you.

The partner who is similar to your race, education, age, values, religion, and social class will be hard to beat. “Marry your best friend” is another worthy guideline for selecting the best partner for you.
Also, marry someone with whom you have a relationship of equality and respect. Relationships in which one partner is exploited or intimidated create negative feelings of resentment and distance. One man said, “I want a co-chair, not a committee member, for a mate.” He was saying that he wanted a partner to whom he related as an equal.
